Certainly one of the highlights of the Amalfi Coast and one of Italy's finest churches, Amalfi Cathedral is located in Piazza del Duomo in the centre of Amalfi. The beautiful Roman Catholic Cathedral is dedicated to the Apostle Saint Andrew whose remains are housed in the Crypt after being brought to Amalfi from Constantinople in 1206.

Amalfi Cathedral is the most important monument of the Ancient Amalfi Republic. Consisting of two juxtaposed basilicas that were once communicating, it overlooks Amalfi's most characteristic square, Piazza Duomo, which has always dictated the pace of Amalfi's dolcevita.

You can visit Amalfi Cathedral for free, however you have to pay an entry fee (3 euros) to visit the cloisters and the crypt (well worth the very informative and well planned tour). A must see, when visiting this beautiful place.

The 17th century Chapel of the Canonical Choir, at the end of the right nave, is now used as a lipsanotheca, or reliquary chapel, and holds a large number of 17th and 18th century sculpture-reliquaries. Of particular interest are the two chapels either side of the entrance to the church.
